Vincent Roumagnac is a Helsinki-based Basque-French artist and researcher, born in Biarritz. Roumagnac began in theater, initially as an actor and later as a director. However, he moved away from straight theater practices and modes of production, focusing instead on how theatricality evolves in response to climate urgency and technological advancements, whithin what he coined as a discipline-fluid methodology. His artworks, which merge visual, installation, and performing arts, are rooted in intervention and site-sensitive ecologies. Roumagnac plays obliquely with memories of western theatrical representation, architecture, and literature, that are displaced in a movement of ecodramaturgical transition of scenic thinking and imaginary. Vincent is also involved in investigative and transdisciplinary processes that implement the connections between art and research. Since 2010 they team with Finnish choreographer Simo Kellokumpu and since 2012 with French visual artist Aurélie Pétrel, with whom they are, in 2020, winner of the Villa Kujoyama Residency prize. Roumagnac’s solo and collaborative projects have been featured in European and international venues in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Finland, Iceland, Argentina, Japan, and Canada. From 2016 to 2018 they co-direct, as part of their doctorate, the weSANK research platform in collaboration with the architect, curator, and researcher Emmanuelle Chiappone-Piriou. In 2019 they launch with Outi Condit and Simo Kellokumpu the artistic research cluster Q̶͈̬̿͝l̴̛̬̝̒o̵̰̍̔ǘ̴̼ḓ̷̟̓̅s̷̻̦̆Q̸̠̿͒u̷͓͚͊̽A̸̛̘͝r̷̖͈̀͝ṭ̶̏͘z̶̩̩͛. In 2020, Roumagnac completes a Doctorate in Arts in the Performing Arts Research Centre of the University of the Arts of Helsinki based on the artistic research project Reacclimating the Stage. In 2025, he publishes his post-doctoral artistic research project Data Ocean Theatre (D.O.T.), and starts the new project Stages of Flower Power/s. Their work in duo with Aurélie Pétrel – aka Pétrel I Roumagnac (duo) – is represented by the Gallery Valeria Cetraro (Paris).

Vincent Roumagnac est un metteur-en-scène et chercheur basque-français né à Biarritz et basé à Helsinki. Roumagnac débute dans le théâtre, d’abord comme acteur puis comme metteur en scène. Cependant, il s’éloigne des pratiques théâtrales et des modes de production « straight », pour se concentrer sur la manière dont la scène évolue en réponse à l’urgence climatique et aux progrès technologiques, dans le cadre d’une méthodologie indexée à ce qu’il nomme fluidité disciplinaire. Ces travaux qui fusionnent les arts visuels, l’installation et les arts de la scène sont influencés par l’histoire des pratiques d’intervention et de sensibilité au site. En jouant de façon oblique avec la mémoire du théâtre occidental, ses conventions et modes opératoires internes, son architecture et sa littérature, Roumagnac propose de repositionner sa pratique de la mise-en-scène, remettant en question l’héritage d’un anthropocentrisme ancré dans le mécanisme même du théâtre, dans un mouvement écodramaturgique de transition de la pensée et de l’imaginaire théâtraux vers des scénographies ouvertes et hybrides, hospitalières à l’agentivité autre qu’humaine. Il est également impliqué dans des projets d’investigation transdisciplinaire qui éprouvent les liens entre l’art et la recherche. Depuis 2010, il collabore avec le chorégraphe finlandais Simo Kellokumpu et, depuis 2012, il mène un travail en duo avec l’artiste visuelle et photographe Aurélie Pétrel, avec qui il est, en 2020, lauréat de la Villa Kujoyama.
